In these amazing world different types of people, animals, plants are living with coordinating with each other directly and indirectly. This is so beautiful world where nothing is exactly same. Everybody has its own unique choices. People are the best creature in this world and they have different perceptions, choices, habits etc. People’s eating practice is also different some like vegetarian dish and other non vegetarian dish. There is always argument between vegetarian and non vegetarian people that their eating habit is healthier than other. Both have their own logic, idea, perception about their eating habit. But what actually good is not clear to everyone. Researchers, doctors, health specialists showing their own research, journals, study to verify what is good and what is bad for our health. Our almighty Allah has created us with great care and very sensitive way so that we just cannot do whatever we like. We always have to think before we act.
Our body is very sensitive we just cannot eat whatever we like because unhealthy food affect us negatively which even lead us to death. As I said earlier researchers, doctors, health specialists working really hard to help us about diet issues. They are always providing information about foods, eating habit. Most of the time what we see that argument between vegetarian diet and non vegetarian diet. So far what we see that there is equal argument between these two diets but according to my sense I think vegetarian diet is healthier than non vegetarian diet.
For my research I choose vegetarian diet versus non vegetarian diet. The main question of my search is that is vegetarian diet healthier than non vegetarian diet? This is actually critical to answer if we do not know what actually we are consuming and what the after-effect of these practices is. My claim is that, a vegetarian diet provides adequate nutrition to adults and children and can also reduce health problems where non vegetarian diet can’t.
To find out the answer I did primary and secondary research. For my primary research I asked twenty four different people about vegetarian and non vegetarian diet. I talked to Dr. Tonima Zaman who is from uttara medical college hospital and she is working on United hospital recently. And for my secondary research I read articles, journals, internet blogs and visited different websites. So what I tried to accomplish is done and I have find out the answer what I am looking for.
Vegetarian diet versus Non vegetarian diet:
Here I will just briefly discuss about the pros and cons of both diet. I am including it because it helps me a lot to understand both diets’ benefit and negative impact. First, non vegetarian diet’s pros and cons:
Non–vegetarian diet is more nutritious as protein, minerals like calcium, phosphorus and vitamins like A, as in fish and some white meats, are abundant in it Non-vegetarian diet can lead to infectious pandemics like Encephalopathy, Salmonella, Foot and Mouth Disease, Bird Flu and Swine Flu.
Non–vegetarian diet is absolutely essential to avoid protein deficiency.
Non-vegetarian diet has little or no fiber leading to improper digestion. Constipation is the resultant complication.

Now vegetarian diet’s pros and cons:
Vegetarian diet is easily digestible and so puts a minimal load on the gastric system, preserving its capabilities
Vegetarian diet is not so pro energetic; however it does provide the starting surge. In Vegetarian diet the risk of infectious disease is significantly less, but proper sorting and cooking, can reduce the risk even more.
Vegetarian diet is not good at providing the sustaining effect normally, but special recipes are available to do so. It is a bother though!

I have taken survey on vegetarian and non-vegetarian diet from number of people who are different in age and gender. I main goal was to find out what people think about vegetarian diet. Are they really thought vegetarian diet is much healthier than non-vegetarian diet? I find out quiet interesting perception of them regarding vegetarian diet. I was quiet surprised that I have found lot of people who are non-vegetarian but they think vegetarian diet is much healthier, diseases free, inexpensive diet. I have collected lot of data which I have analyzed through some diagrams, tables and charts.
The first and very general question I have asked that “do they eat vegetables?” before asking them about their eating practice. I did that because I wanted to find out even if they are non-vegetarian do they really eat vegetables, if they do what is the purpose behind it? This is very general pie chart of that particular question I have asked. This pie chat shows us that 90% of people of my survey eat vegetables even if they are non-vegetarian. And only ten percent people did not eat vegetables entirely. What is the reason behind it? What I have find out that people eat vegetables because they subconsciously or consciously think that vegetables are good for health though they like to eat it very much.
My second question was “what diet do they follow?” after seeing the answer of that question I was quiet amazed because I have find out that in country like Bangladesh where most of the people are Muslim are devoted in vegetarian diet. What I have found out
In this graph I have shown the percentage of people of my survey what diet they are following. In the horizontal axis I have shown the diet and gender (Red: male & Green: Female) and in the vertical axis I have shown the percentage of people who are practicing their diet. Analysis this graph what I have found that 54.3% people are non-vegetarian where 30% male and 24.3% are female. The percentage of vegetarian people is 41.7% where 38.2% are female and only 3.5% are male. And others are followed vegan diet which is really less compare to vegetarian and non vegetarian diet.
These analyses have showed one interesting thing which is female is more devoted to vegetarian diet than male. So what could be the driving force behind their perception? Answer is health. Most of the female persons are more health conscious than male. So they think that vegetarian diet can help them to keep fit their bodies. Another fact is that the number of percentages of non-vegetarian is high within male. It is possible because most of male people are trying to maintain their fitness through heavy gym. So, non-vegetarian diet is appropriate for them because non-vegetarian dish can supply them much protein than other dish.
Next important question what I have asked that “Suppose you are not a vegetarian. If you ever start vegetarian diet what will be the reason behind it?” The answers I got something like this.
In the horizontal axis I used the reason of being a vegetarian and in the vertical axis I used percentage of people. By my survey result what I have find out that 75% people will become vegetarian because of health issues. 12.5% people will become vegetarian because of their family and cultural pressure. After analyzing this graph what I have seen that most of the people are health conscious. They will become vegetarian because they know that vegetarian diet is healthier than non-vegetarian diet. So they know the fact that vegetarian diet will help them to live healthy fresh and diseases free. And other thinks that they will become vegetarian because of their family. And others think that culture could be the driving factor for their changing habit.
Another important question what I have asked to them is what they think; vegetarian people do not get enough protein and other important components. Their response was something like this
In this pie chart I have shown the percentage of people who are thinking about the protein and other important components are present in vegetarian diet. This analysis have revealed that more than 66% people agree that protein and other important components people get when they consume vegetarian dish. They think there is no lack of protein and other essential components in vegetarian dish. At the same time 13.5% people disagree with the fact. They think that without having non-vegetarian dish no one cannot get sufficient amount of protein and other necessary components to maintain their bodies fit and healthy. And 12.5% people think that they get protein and other vital component from vegetarian dish but not in sufficient amount.
Another issue, what I try to find out that, people’s perception about vegetarian diet in terms of our country’s economic condition. We all know that our country is developing country where half of the population lives under the poverty line. They do not have sufficient amount of money to buy non-vegetarian dish’s ingredients every day. So, what people think about motivating them to practice vegetarian diet? What I have found that more than 87% people think that it will be a wise decision for them because vegetarian diet is much cheaper than non vegetarian dish which 62.5% people think.
For my secondary research I have used articles, journals, internet blogs, and different websites. What my secondary research leads me is: Earlier days, it was common belief that non-vegetarian diet is superior to vegetarian diet. People used to think that non-vegetarian diet provides us more power and it is full of energetic ingredients. This theory attracted more and more people and ultimately a large number of people of the world adopted non-vegetarian diet. But now this concept is changing. Significantly important difference between vegetarian and non-vegetarian diet is that the former contains dietary fibers whereas non-vegetarian diet is lacking in fiber. Rakesh (2010) said that dietary fibers are very useful for human body because it has been observed that the people who eat diet rich in these dietary fibers have low incidence of diseases like coronary heart diseases, cancer of intestinal tract, piles, obesity, diabetes, constipation, hiatus hernia, diverticulitis, irritable bowel syndrome, dental caries and gallstones.
The food stuffs rich in these dietary fibers are cereals and grains, legumes, fruits with seeds, citrus fruits, carrot, cabbage, celery, green leafy vegetables, apples, melons, peaches, pears etc A vegetarian diet provides adequate nutrition to adults and children and can also reduce health problems, an Australian study has found. A study of Sharp (2009) also found those who adopted a vegetarian diet are receiving adequate levels of protein, iron and zinc, and are less likely to suffer from heart disease, colorectal cancer, type 2 diabetes and obesity. According to a recent study from Eastern Michigan University, Vegetarian diets can be recommended for successful weight management without compromising diet quality. The study found that vegetarian diets are nutrient dense, consistent with dietary guidelines, and high in fiber and a large variety of other vitamins and minerals although the protein intakes of vegetarians in the study were lower than the intakes of non vegetarians, they were not lower than recommended amounts for adults.
Typically, no vegetarians exceed protein requirements, and higher protein intakes particularly animal protein – are hypothesized to increase risk of some chronic conditions and diseases. Meanwhile, vegetarians were found to eat more dark leafy greens, legumes, and whole grains than non vegetarians. Leafy greens provide calcium and iron, whole grains and legumes provide zinc, and all provide important contributions to protein intake. “I also think that many people who are new to vegetarianism tend to substitute things like pasta or cheese for meat instead of eating more vegetables, whole grains, and legumes,” says Farmer, (2007). The benefits of a vegan diet extend beyond your own health to that of the planet. Eating plants, rather than feeding plants to animals and then eating the animals, makes much more efficient use of land and water, and produces far less pollution. Eating less meat means fewer industrial farms and fewer animals subjected to harsh treatment. According to katz (n.d) Even if you don’t want to take the plunge into veganism, it bears repeating that a diet of mostly plants is good for your health.
Or you might consider the Mediterranean diet, which includes seafood and some meat and dairy; it has been linked to a longer life span and reduced risk of cancer and heart disease. All in all, what my secondary research have showed me that vegetarian diet have almost all important food elements and nutrition. Vegetarian dish have sufficient amount of protein to support our body needs so far what I learnt from expert opinion and sources. To lead healthy life there is no alternative of vegetarian diet. The benefits of a vegetarian diet extend beyond your own health to that of the planet. Eating plants, rather than feeding plants to animals and then eating the animals, makes much more efficient use of land and water, and produces far less pollution. Eating less meat means fewer industrial farms and fewer animals subjected to harsh treatment. Slowly but surely people becoming more vegetarian diet oriented for sake of their health.
After analyzing my primary research and secondary research data what I have found that people are becoming vegetarian for sake of their health. One interesting thing, what I have found that, people who are non vegetarian they prefer vegetarian diet healthier though they do not practice vegetarian diet because of some cultural, family, environmental issues. Moreover they want to practice vegetarian diet if they get chance. And one more interesting thing is that young female are more curious to vegetarian diet than young male. As my research showed that there is a variety of health problem caused by non vegetarian dish so it will be wise to move on to vegetarian diet. Because vegetarian diet has so many advantages which can help people to live diseases free healthy life.
As we all are human being we do not have eternal life to live in this beautiful world. This is natural that we all have to leave this world forever so how many days we live; we should live it full with good health. We just can’t gain good health by consuming non vegetarian dish which will create lot of health problem. To avoid all possible major and minor health diseases we should practice vegetarian diet what all sensible people will do. We are getting all nutrition, protein, and other essential food element from vegetarian dish so why we will ignore it. If you can’t get rid of non vegetarian dish because of culture, environment or family, try at least three days full vegetarian dish for sake of your health. You don’t have to be a vegetarian to enjoy vegetarian dishes. Because we all know that health is wealth.
A vegetarian diet can be a very healthy option but it is important to ensure it is well balanced. You could stuff your face with chips and chocolate at every meal and be vegetarian but you wouldn’t be doing your health much good. A vegetarian diet tends to be lower in total fat, and vegetarians tend to eat proportionally more polyunsaturated fat to saturated fat compared with non-vegetarians.
A typical vegetarian diet closely matches expert dietary recommendations for healthy eating, being low in saturated fat and high in fiber, complex carbohydrates, and fresh fruit and vegetables. As long as you eat a variety of foods you will be getting all the nutrients you need. Supermarkets, restaurants and fast food outlets all are now stocking a wide range of vegetarian options. Many “meat-free” dishes still have the meaty consistency, and are significantly lower in fat and calories than their counterparts. Vegetarian or not, change the way you think about food, experiment and try new “meat-free” dishes in your diet. Eat green, live fresh.

Low-fat dairy foods and dark green vegetables, such as spinach, turnip and collard greens, kale and broccoli, are good sources of cal calcium. Tofu enriched with calcium and fortified soy milk and fruit juices are other options. •Vitamin B-12 is very important for your body to produce red blood cells and prevent anemia. Regular intake of vitamin B-12 is important to meet nutritional needs. Good sources include all common multiple vitamins (including vegetarian vitamins), fortified cereals, nutritional yeast, and fortified soy milk. •Iron is like Vitamin B-12, iron is a crucial component of red blood cells.
Dried beans and peas, lentils, enriched cereals, whole-grain products, dark leafy green vegetables, and dried fruit are good sources of iron. To help your body absorb non-animal sources of iron, eat foods rich in vitamin C, such as strawberries, citrus fruits, tomatoes, cabbage and broccoli to consume iron-containing foods at the same time. •Zinc a mineral that is an essential component of many enzymes and makes cell division and in the formation of proteins. Good sources of zinc include whole grains, soy products, nut and wheat germ.
Now that we know how to get the important minerals and nutrients to help maintain a healthier body, let’s start by knowing which foods can replace animal derived foods in a vegetarian diet. 3. Third, I will discuss the foods that can be replaced with animal derived foods like meat, eggs and dairy to meet your daily nutritional needs and maintain a healthy diet when meal planning or cooking. •Meat can be replaced tofu dogs, soy burgers, nut loaves or textured vegetable protein, to simulate the taste and texture of meat with less fat and fewer calories and to add variety to your vegetarian diet.
Many of the meatless products, such as tofu are made from soybeans. •Meat also can be replaced with the many varieties of beans, seeds, and nuts. •Cow’s milk replaced with fortified soymilk, rice milk or almond milk. •Butter replaced with olive oil, water, vegetable broth, wine when sauteing. In baked goods, use canola oil and there’s even fat-free cooking spray instead of butter. •Cheese replaced with soy cheese or nutritional yeast flakes, which are available in health food stores. •Eggs in baked goods, try commercial egg replacers – a dry product made mostly of potato starch.
Or you can use the following to replace one egg: ? cup whipped tofu or 1 tablespoon milled flaxseed mixed with 3 tablespoons of water. For an egg-free omelet use tofu instead of eggs. So you see that a well-planned vegetarian diet is a healthy way to meet your nutritional needs and now that you know the steps to ensure you plan a healthy vegetarian diet the right way. Conclusion Now that you know how to find the many ways from the many cook books, magazine articles, etc which provide ways to cook, plan and replace meat erived foods or unhealthy foods with nutritional vegetarian diet that have plant-based foods that provide many health benefits that can prevent health problems in future. Vegetarianism will not only educate you to choose a healthier lifestyle, but to even educate one’s essence of compassion for animals because the beginning of a ethical vegetarian is the knowledge that other creatures have feelings very similar to ours. Because we now ourselves the feeling of pain and suffering, we can only sympathize with them to help stop such sorry conditions that many animals go through to only pleasure most of us humans wants and needs.
A vegetarian can help to stop animal cruelty in the filthy environment of animal slaughter factories and by removing humanitarian objection to the eating of meat to reducing the pollution from those slaughter factories for the environment also. So now that you know even know more about how a simple vegetarian diet can have so many ways to benefit your daily nutritional needs, to help prevent health problems, to help reduce pollution in our environment, and to even help stop animal cruelty that will strengthen the compassion in us.
