Pharmacist Case Essay Sample
QUESTION # 1: What attracts you to a career in pharmacy?
Since a career in pharmacy is a health profession dealing mainly on health sciences with respect to chemicals as these are the contents of medications (drugs) to be dispensed to patient-clients, the passion for chemistry should be of utmost consideration. I like chemistry and parallel to this passion, I find pharmacy as a highly recommended calling where the field of chemistry is fitting. Aside from this, there are many available areas of pharmacy which may serve as options as to what specializations I may pursue upon practice. And finally, pharmacy is a progressive discipline and as such it is open for enhancement and development making it dynamic and motivating for further study and innovation.
QUESTION # 2: What area of pharmacy practice do you think you will pursue and why?
Amidst globalization trend around the world, nuclear proliferation programs are being explored by advanced nations. Along this line, I find nuclear pharmacy a very promising area to practice being timely and in demand relative to globalization. Though this specialization was initiated since the 1970s, this may not be the first area of pharmacy that comes to a pharmacist’s mind. However, nuclear pharmacy “is dedicated to the compounding and dispensing of radioactive materials for use in nuclear medicine procedures” (Division of Nuclear Pharmacy, 2007). With the advent of serious and presently untreatable diseases today such as cancers and malignancies of all types, medical researchers are exploring nuclear medicine (i.e. radiation therapy, chemotherapy, radioactive, etc.) in finding cure for these fatal conditions. In this regard, the demand for nuclear pharmacy has become apparent. This is the reason why I find nuclear pharmacy embedded with potentials and opportunities for a fruitful career as a pharmacist.
QUESTION # 3: Why do you think you will be a good pharmacist?
The basic function of a pharmacist as a member of the health care team is to provide patient care in terms of drug therapy. My love for chemistry which is basic to pharmacy leads me to think that I would become a good pharmacist in the future. Beyond this, my passion for helping other people through counseling and collaborative work is indicative of good pharmacist qualities. In addition, I also have a good memory. Compared to other students, I have a relatively higher level of memory which is a prerequisite in pharmacy as in memorizing names and functions of drugs. I will study hard to be able to explore this field and maybe I can contribute something for it. Based on these instances, I strongly believe that I am competent enough to be a pharmacist.
QUESTION # 4: Why should the Admission Committee recommend you to be a student in the USN Pharm. D. Program?
My passion for pharmacy is carved deep within me. My interest for the field is unfathomable. Further, I possess an untiring quest for knowledge on drugs and in dispensing them to those who need it. I believe these are reasons enough for me to be highly recommended by the Admission Committee. To quantify it, I have earned good grades in Chemistry which is an essential requirement to be accepted in the Pharmacy Program. If I will be admitted to the program, I am willing to undergo all the necessary education and training needed to become a skilled pharmacist. This can be done through constant practice and applying diligent study habits. I promise to maintain good grades and improve on my weaknesses if ever. I am confident that the USN Pharmacy Program can give me proper foundation in the field of pharmacy.
