Breast Cancer Awareness helps shine a light on a disease that impacts roughly 1 in 18 U.S. woman each year. With a variety of support groups, programs and counseling services available to Southern Nevada residents, breast cancer patients and their caregivers have many resources available in their local community.
Reaching out for help
Dealing with breast cancer can be difficult and can cause depression, all of which can be managed with a solid support group and knowledge regarding the disease. It is important to remember the woman with breast cancer that she is not alone and to lean on the people that care about her for support during this time. Do not hesitate to reach out to those around for anything patient needs, whether it’s a ride to appointments or help around the house. Patient and family can have access various local resources, programs and financial aid to for help through a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. Here are some of the available programs in our community for breast cancer.Financial SupportORION Cancer Foundation: assistance with mortgage or rent payments, utilities, groceries, health insurance premium or COBRA premiums. Patient Advocate Foundation Co-Pay Relief Program: prescription assistance for those with health insurance/Medicare/Medicaid. Partnership for Prescription Assistance: prescription assistance for uninsured/underinsure.
Rose Support Services: assistance with rent, utilities, groceries, and transportation costs during treatment Emotional SupportBarbara Greenspun WomensCare Center: breast cancer support groups and healing yoga. The Caring Place: wellness seminars, healing arts, yoga, reiki, reflexology, healing touch, massage therapy, support groups Center for Compassionate Care: breast cancer counseling for survivors & their families, various support groups Treatment SupportAccess to Healthcare Network: screening and diagnostic services for uninsured over the age of 50. Program: screening and diagnostic services for uninsured women with breast cancer under the age of 50. Mammovan: mobile mammography screening services for uninsured women. Planned Parenthood: clinical breast examinations for uninsured women.
